Seattle to Frankfurt - Lufthansa

I'm flying from Seattle to Frankfurt, then catching a connecting flight to Munich. When I arrive in Frankfurt, what do I do? Do I need to go through customs, security, etc., or head to catch my connecting flight? I'm bringing carry-on, no checked baggage. I haven't traveled in a while and aren't recalling what I need to do. Thanks.

Assuming all on one ticket. Exit aircraft and check the monitors in the terminal for next flight. Sometimes there’s an airline representative there that can tell you which gate for your connecting flight. Along the way you will encounter passport control and probably a security screening. If you some reason you don’t have your boarding pass then stop by a Lufthansa service desk. There should be plenty at Frankfurt. If checking bags I believe they go straight thru to Munich.

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you for the information!

Yes, flying all on one ticket - I think. No checked luggage - I travel light. Do I go through passport control and a security screening in Frankfurt before catching the connecting flight to Munich? I will have gone through security in Seattle. I do have around a 3 hour layover in Frankfurt. I'm hoping I get off the Seattle to Frankfurt flight, and then go to the gate for the Frankfurt to Munich flight. And it's not until the beginning of October so hopefully all the travel debacles will have subsided a bit by then.

Assuming this is all on one ticket, meaning you are flying with Lufthansa or one if their partners all the way until Munich: Your bags should be checked through to Munich, you don’t have to collect them in Frankfurt. Therefore you don’t go through Customs in Frankfurt. You will go through immigration (passport check) in Frankfurt since this is the first stop into a foreign country. You may need to go through security. Then you proceed to the gate for the connecting flights.

Once you collect your luggage in Munich, you go through Customs. Most tourists have “Nothing to Declare”, so look for that option and just walk on through that one.

If you booked two separate tickets (for example: Lufthansa and Ryan Air), in Frankfurt you would go through immigration, collect your luggage, go through Customs, then find the check in desk for the second airline and check your bag. Then go through security.

Thanks for the information.

I'm flying Lufthansa on all one ticket. No checked luggage. I'm a minimalist and travel light. So will I go through Customs in Frankfurt then? I'll have my luggage with me.

With carry-on only bags, you will go through Immigration (passport control) in Frankfurt, for sure. Then follow the signs for Connections to get to your gate for the Munich flight. You may go through security again before boarding the Munich flight. Then you will go through Customs in Munich. Customs is not a big deal, unless you are bringing things into the country you shouldn’t be bringing (food, drugs, etc). My friend forgot she brought an apple in her backpack from London to LAX and got caught by a fruit-sniffing dog!

Hi Linda! Imagine seeing you here! Jill says Lufthansa has carry on weight limit 18 lbs. I had no idea there was a weight limit. Have you flown Lufthansa before? Any tips or info? We are flying direct SEA to FRA but coming home we have 3 flights!
