My almost 14 year old twin daughters and I will be traveling to Munich arriving August 13 and departing August 16. Any recommendations on a hotel with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and breakfast buffet included for no more than $150 USD per night or so? I have found a few but most of them seem to be a 20+ minute subway ride to Marienplatz. Just wondered if there was a hidden gem out there I may have missed. I know it is asking a lot! Thank you for your help.
That's a low budget for a hotel with bfast and air conditioning. You should look at the Motel 1 Sendlinger Tor, but you'll only be able to put 2 people max into a room. One room for you and one for your daughters.
Look on www.hrs.com to find a hotel with AC, breakfast and 3 beds.
My sons and I stayed at Hotel Uhland for about 110Euro, BUT, it was January and about 5 years ago. We had a lovely room that accommodated 3 and their breakfast was amazing. It is close to the Oktoberfest grounds and about 10 minutes from the train station. I'm not sure how they will fit your budget given your August dates, but give them a try. https://www.hotel-uhland.de/en/home/
Try Hotel Der Tannenbaum near Sendlinger Tor. They have a lot of triple rooms for families. Looking at them for your dates on Booking.com it’s available for $157/night with breakfast. I’ve only stayed there in winter so I can’t speak for the AC but the rest seems to fit (location, breakfast, room size, WiFi).
If AC is a deal breaker then I’d also suggest 2 rooms at Motel One. For your dates with breakfast two rooms is just over 200€ per night.

Wife & I stayed at very modern around $102 in August on the less busy side of Isar River. It's a short walk to Marienplatz and our favorite restaurant in Munich - Wirtshaus in der Au.
Hotel Motel One München -Deutsches Museum
Rablstraße 2, 81669 München, Germany
3 of us stayed at the Pension Lindner for 4 nights and highly recommend it. We got a double and a single. The location is perfect and you are able to walk most places. Nice rooms, delicious breakfast and Marion is very helpful. Would definitely go back.
Motel One had been mentioned in a few posts. As Tim mentioned, you would need to get 2 rooms. Three people do not fit in a room and , they do not have inter-connecting rooms.
The breakfast is a cold buffet style (cold meats, cheese, yogurt, breads, fruit salad). There is an extra charge for breakfast.
The Kings Hotel group has three properties near the Haupbahnhof. The Kings Hotel 1st Class has a family suite room which has a bedroom with either a double bed or two twins, plus a separate room with a foldout sofa. Breakfast is very nice, but an extra charge.
You may have to up your budget a bit.
There are also a couple of Ibis properties (the big French Accor conglomerate rough equivalent of Motel One) that seemed to price out at your budget if you get two rooms at the prepaid rate. There is AC, but breakfast is not included either, though it is available.
I'd suggest focusing on the a/c and rustling up your own breakfast at a nearby cafe. It will probably cost less and will certainly be higher quality. Another option is one of the widely available small sandwiches, prepared on all types of bread and with a huge variety of fillings. I am not an early riser and cannot say exactly when they show up in the cold cases, but they were on display by 10 AM. A lot of the places selling sandwiches also had cups of cut-up fruit. One thing: the Germans really like cucumber, so it appears on many of the sandwiches.
It will probably cost less and will certainly be higher quality.
In Munich, that's highly unlikly, provided it offers the same range of food as the Motel One breakfast does.
I agree with Acraven regarding finding Frühstück (breakfast) outside of the hotel. One morning we headed to Viktualienmarkt for fresh bread, coffee & weißwurstfrühstück (love those little sausages). The next morning we strolled into a cute cafe off Kohlstraße for another inexpensive breakfast.
Thank you for all the ideas so far. I, too, was thinking that maybe breakfast could be found at other places. We would really only need the hotel breakfast option for Tuesday morning Aug. 14 as we have a day trip planned and need to meet up early and already fed. For me the A/C is the top priority but if I knew there were places relatively close by to grab some breakfast the other days that would be OK.
Why not the Marriott Courtyard? It's just a couple blocks south of the Hauptbahnhof and just as far from the main gate to the old town pedestrian center of Munich. It has AC and they serve one of the best breakfasts in the city. Since they get many Americans you get all the "normal" American food along with the "normal" German breakfast.
I just stayed at Hotel Metropol on Mittererstrasse, just 5 minutes to the Hbf and thus all the transit options you'll need, 15 minute walk to Marienplatz. Lovely room and common areas, quiet location, very helpful staff, a/c, Wi-Fi and the most incredible breakfast buffet I have ever seen.
If the Tuesday morning breakfast is the concern, how about bringing a box of protein/granola bars, bag of almonds of similar, or picking up bread, peanut butter and jelly at a grocery store. I usually first search for hotels with breakfasts. I usually end up with some that do not include a breakfast so I just start the day with a granola bar and some nuts. Somewhere during the morning I can grab a coffee or yogurt or something depending on how the day goes.
Bakeries are EVERYWHERE in Germany, so why would anyone want to bring protein bars and eat PBJ sandwiches? That is just sad.
The girls might really like having a room to themselves, so Motel One may truly be your best bet. Their AC is good and the breakfast, though it costs extra, is a good deal. Especially if you like having coffee first thing in the morning and more than one cup. That in itself is worth paying for the breakfasts.
If AC is truly your main concern then spend the money and stay at the Hotel Torbrau. It's a top choice with AC and breakfast inclusive and it's in a great location near the Viktualienmkart and not far from the River Isar. It's away from the seedy train station.
@Ms. Jo, This was for one morning that OP seemed particularly concerned about. I make it a point to go to markets in every city that I go to. Munich has a nice one. (Vikualienmarkt) I also try to book hotels with included breakfasts. I also go to bakeries. One of the reasons I bring some nuts and granola bars is for when we rely on a bakery breakfast or when a hotel breakfast is not filling until lunch. In French hotels, the breakfast can be heavy on the pastries. In Germany, they typically do include protein items. Carbohydrates don't fill me up for long. Another reason I have small snacks is so I have something to snack on for train rides, for really busy days or if we are spending more time at a museum than we had planned. I personally have never eaten peanut butter sandwiches in Europe. Again, just trying to offer solutions for the OP who seems to have some difficulties finding a hotel for her family within her budget. What I think is sad is the lack of respect on this forum for peoples' opinions.
I'm with you, Jules--I prefer to have a hotel with breakfast, but some mornings I have a too early start and I need a bite of something to get me going--along with coffee or tea from the kettle in the room. I always have a few Clif bars with me--they are sturdy and don't crumble, I know I like them and one fits easily in my purse and has made the difference between grumpy me who's stuck on a train for 3 hours or satisfied me who will be having a nice lunch or dinner soon.
I'm with you also Jules!
If your hotel or tour is close to the main train station there is a really good grocery next to the food places on the end. They have excellent fruit, pre-made salads and sandwiches, yogurts, etc. There is also a bakery in the grocery.
We are staying 4 consecutive nights in early September at the Arthotel near the central train station, very easy to get on any U-Bahn or S-bahn and within walking distance to the Altstadt. We reserved a room about 6 months ago in the main building (not the annex) with air conditioning and breakfast. We paid 156e per night for the first two nights and 171e for the last two nights. I hope this helps.
When in Munich, we stayed in 4you Hostel in a 3 person room for 70E / night, good breakfast, lots of young people to meet your daughters. Hostels these days have many private room W BATH. Less expensive hotels really.
