Hello, Fellow Travelers!
I am interested in visiting the Slyrs Whiskey Distillery in Neuhausen on the Schliersee. The Slyrs website isn't quite as clear as it could be concerning the self-guided tours. Does anyone know if you have to make an appointment to do the self-guided tour, or can you just show up and get in? Has anyone done a tour of Slyrs, and if so, what were your thoughts? How many whiskies are you allowed to sample on the tour or at the facility?
Last question: we are thinking about taking the train or bus from Tegernsee (where we are staying) to Schliersee and then hiking down to the Markus Wasmeier Freilichtmuseum, visiting the museum and then walking on to Sylrs. Is that doable in one day?
Looking forward to hearing back from you all.
Markus Wasmeier Open Air Museum is a 20-minute walk from Slyrs. Friends of mine took a guided tour with a tasting but I think they also mentioned that it's possible without a guide. I'd just give Slyrs a call.
You can also hike from Lake Tegernsee to Lake Schliersee – it takes 3.5 hours (from the east side of Lake Tegernsee). It's a nice, peaceful hike, though - English Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRx0VOakIOM
But a few times a day, a bus runs from the Tegernsee village to Schliersee village – I think it's bus number 355. The trip takes just under an hour.
To answer your question, even if you hike from the east side of Lake Tegernsee to Schliersee and take the bus back, it's still doable in a day.
Don't know the bus route, but you might consider the LANTENHAMMER Erlebnisdestillerie too. They make my favorite Sauerkirschbrand (Sour Cherry Schnaps). look into the Boandlkramer and Brandner Kaspar story. You'll be right in the area.
Thank you both. I always like the “Near from Home” videos on YouTube. If anyone else has any suggestions or experiences with Slyrs or Schliersee, please post them.
You might consider visiting the Spitzingsee too. One visit I had on the Schliersee it was covered by low clouds and foggy. A short trip to the Spitzingsee and everything was clear as it is at a higher elevation.
