Just wondering if this is the best way to go... my husband and I want to go from Hamburg to Lubeck for a day trip. Is the Schleswig-Holstein-Ticket the least expensive way to get there? If I am reading it right, we can go on any regional train after 9am from Hamburg to Lubeck and back for €32. Do I just purchase at the train station, or does one buy ahead? Thank you!

Correct. On weekends you can also use them before 9 am.

You also get discounts at some sights.

If you know the specific date I would buy it ahead. If you want to stay flexible buy it at the train station.
Hi,
From Hamburg Hbf you can access several places as day trips in addition to Lübeck within a decent radius. Hamburg Hbf is the junction point in North Germany.
Towns/cities such as Schwerin, Bremen, Lübeck, Hannover, Celle, Kiel, (and beyond), Cuxhaven, Stade, ....all very doable, depending if your preferred radius is one or two hours.
The Schleswig-Holstein Ticket is date specific. It can be bought in advance or on the day you want to use it. If you're buying it in advance, make sure you get it for the correct date.
