Schleiden to Cologne and Bonn

We are staying Schleiden, near the Eifel National Park. We intend to visit both Cologne and Bonn, on day trips. Driving, is there a recommendation for parking near either city and taking a train, tram, or bus into the center of each city? Or if continuing into the city center, where in each city would one park?

Neither city is all that difficult for driving and finding parking. It's easy enough just to drive into the center and park in a garage.

Here's a hint that works for almost any city in Germany except Munich (very little parking) or Berlin (no real city center): As you drive into the city, you'll see color-coded signs that identify parking areas near notable landmarks. If in doubt, follow the signs to "Zentrum", "Markt" or "Rathaus", as these are usually safe bets for what you probably want to see. The signs for the parking garages are unmistakable and easy to follow. There is usually even a digital display that indicates how many free spaces remain.

You could also drive to Kall train station and take the train. After 9 am a Rhein-Sieg 5 zone day ticket covers up to 5 people for the rest of the day for 34.90 euro. All day on weekends, so it would also cover buses, trams, and U-bahns plus return to Kall.

Are you staying in the timeshare, Gemuender ferienpark Salzburg? We were there in September. We took the train from Kall to Koln. Do mind the speed limit. We got caught going 5 over the posted and received a ticket. I can give more tips for the area if you message me.
