I am staying in Schiltach for three nights in May. I will have a car, but was considering using a train part of the time. I had thought of taking the train to Triberg and then to Freiburg for a day trip. But according to the train schedules I would be spending about 6 hours on trains, even though it is only 30 minutes from Schiltach to Triberg by car and 1 hour from Triberg to Freiburg and a little over an hour from Freiburg back to Schiltach. Should I just forget the train and drive to both cities in one day? Take a train trip to each on separate days? Take a train to one. Are the views and experience of the train worth it? Thanks for any advice.

The Black Forest Railway is one of Germany's most scenic train routes. You will use part of it between Hausach and Triberg when you visit there. Note that you may want to continue beyond Triberg that day to visit the handsome old walled town of Villingen as well.
If you travel on a separate day from Schiltach to Freiburg, you will use the Hausach-Offenburg segment of the BF Railway (change trains in O'burg for Freiburg.)
Both these train rides are free with the KONUS card you will receive from your innkeepers in Schiltach.

There is a roadway basically parallel to the Black Forest Railroad, but having taken the train on the route twice, I would far rather be in the train looking at the scenery than trying to drive and see the scenery.

One thing to be aware of is that the reason it takes 92 minutes to go from Schiltach to Triberg by train is because there is a 56 minute long connection in Hausach.

Is the station in Hausach near the town? Hausach looks a nice town to wander around in for a little while. Thanks.
