Scharbeutz - Baltic Sea

Good day all,

I am planning on staying in Scharbeutz on the Baltic Sea outside Lübeck for a small beach break in our family European holiday this summer.

Any recommendations on local activities, hidden gems, restaurants to see?

Thanks,

Nate

I am more familiar with the Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian side and am not quite as well informed in the direction of Scharbeutz.
But one is for sure it will be crowded :-) As mentioned in the other post .... the German Baltic Sea Cost is one of the holiday destinations in Germany. And it is not a secret place.

The local activity in summer is swimming at the beach. This is why all the tourists are comming. And I would rent bikes and explore the area. Since everything is super flat, it's great to cycle along the coast. https://www.ostsee-schleswig-holstein.de/cycling-baltic-coast-cycle-path

In any case, you should stop at one of the fishing boats selling smoked or baked fish and eat fish sandwiches.

I would also find out directly in Scharbeutz whether there are boat tours, I can imagine that there is a lot on offer.

Scharbeutz is a nice place with Lübeck, Travemünde and smaller villages such as Timmendorfer Strand or beautiful Niendorf in reach. Good choice for a beach break. The local tourist info will help you best with some recommendations.

Personally I prefer the area closer to Fehmarn which is a little bit rougher. Heiligenhafen turned into a very good spot to stay with very good hotels and various restaurants and activities to go for. In my young years I spent wonderful summer days in Großenbrode where my parents had a summer house. It has two beaches, one on each side of the land's end. Especially in late August and September when a lot of tourists left already it has a wondeerful atmosphere up there; sometimes with wind blowing over the beaches.

If you want to know more about this "corner" of German Baltic Sea I can help with my personal favorites.
