Planning 2 weeks (1 week Germany/1 week France). First significant trip to either country. Final stop in Germany is Saarbrucken.
From there we want to get to Lyon ASAP. Car, plane or train? I'm well versed on Italian travel, so I appreciate some expertise here.
Also, ending up in Paris, so do I drive to the airport or drop car off along the way? Will be arriving in Paris from Normandy beaches.
Thank you.
It looks to be about 6 hours by train, with the departure station in Paris being different than the arrival station.
This doesn't make any sense. You're planning to go from Saarbrucken to Lyon, and then to Normandy and back to Paris? in a week? You will spend half of that week just traveling. Saarbrucken to Lyon is 6-8 hours by train or car. Lyon to Normandy is going to be worth flying. I've driven around both locations, and to them from near Saarbrucken, and that's a lot of driving. The best way from Saarbrucken to Paris is train, provided you don't want to visit anyplace in between. I've only driven to and from Normandy, so I won't comment on the train, but you will want a car in Normandy.
Lyon and Paris in a week is doable in a week, but you're going to rush to see half of whatever you think you want to see. I've spent a week in Lyon and better than two in Paris this year and there's still stuff I have on my list to go back for. And my week in Normandy this past May was full also, but having seen the D-Day beaches, which checked off a block on the list, was only scratching the surface of an area I really enjoyed. I'm making plans for a two week visit next spring because there's some fantastic scenery and history west of Bayeux.
Also, you probably should ask this in the "France" forum.
