RUM

Has anyone been out there? It's just a little outside Innsbruck, so should we get a car for two days? From what I've read online, seems rural and very picturesque.

RUM? Never heard of it. Does it have a more complete name?

OK, Rum (no need for all caps, it's not an acronym). It's a small town between Innsbruck and Hall. In 2009, I stayed in Hall and took the S-Bahn into Innsbruck. When I came back to Hall, the next transit link was the bus. Looking at the map, I probably went right through Rum with the bus. There is also the S-Bahn with a station in Rum. It doesn't look like you really need a car.

Oh dear. Copied the RUM from someone who wrote about it.

So we can get around by public transport around Rum? What about heading to Innsbruck for a few hours? Bus?

I don't know where you might be staying in Rum. That might make a difference, but there is S-Bahn transportation possibility from Rum Bahnhof to Innsbruck in 5 minutes. See the German Rail website. use "Rum b. Innsbruck".

It looks like Rum extends up into the mountains from the Bhf. There are buses from the Bhf running into the mountains (to the Sanatorium, for instance) but there are some other buses that come out from Innsbruck without stopping at the Bhf.

If you have an address for where you want to go, you can find bus schedules on the Verkehrsverbund Tirol website, www.vvt.at.

This is the apartment. I'm not very good at figuring out distances. The owner said that he pays for the taxi to bring is from Innsbruck and to return us to the train station upon departure. Apparently, this is something that is done out there. So that's one trip taken care of.

I don't know how or where we find the bus to travel to the mountains or back to Innsbruck for a few hours. Maybe by taxi?

Looks like your accommodations are 750m from the Rum Bahnhof. That's an easy walk without luggage (after you are checked in). I'm sure if the owner is offering to pay for a taxi from Innsbruck, he'll pick you up at the local station. And, if you want to go up into the mountains from where you are staying, there are buses in town.

The S-Bahn from the Innsbruck Hbf runs once per hour. In between, there are 6 buses. The buses go to Dorfplatz (town square), up the hill from your accommodations. It's a 10 min walk from there.
