Rüdesheim cable car

If you have taken Rüdesheim cable car to Niederwaldtempelarea I would like to hear your experience. How long does it take to go up and come back? I see two restaurants near by any good? Thinking 1700/1800 time frame and head to Drosselgasse after for shopping and possible dinner. When does the stores on Drosselgasse area close?

Hi,

I was in Rüdesheim in 2013, had not seen the place since 1977, went up to the Niederwald Denkmal (mostly covered, plus scaffolding, since it was being cleaned) on the lift, can't remember how long the ride took. Hopefully you'll have better luck in seeing the monument itself. I walked back downhill along the marked trail, ca 40 mins. When I was there in June, the weather was clear, got clear view of the Rhine valley and the river in this Middle Rhine area.

I didn't eat at the restaurants, be prepared for a ton people on Drosselgasse, it was inundated with tourists. I only passed by the street.

Give yourself about 10 min. to go up, at least 30-45 min. to walk around and to take photos of Germania and the view of the Rhine, and another 10 min. to come back down. (the scaffolding came down about 2 years ago) If a ship has just brought their passengers here to ride up, add on another 10-20 min. wait. Just shop at one of the many souvenir stores around here or have an ice cream while you wait.

Lots of places to eat in Rüdesheim, most of them with pretty good prices. Are you going to be there in the summer or some other season? Some places have outdoor seating which can be pleasant. Have most often eaten at that 1st restaurant on the corner of Drosselgasse, looking out over the Rhine.

You don't mention Siegfrieds Musical Cabinet? This place is well worth a visit. Have never seen anything like it.

Store closings may depend on day of the week, if a fest is happening, are there lots of ships docked here, season, etc. A lot of them are closed right now and won't pick back up til closer to Easter. There is an awful lot of tacky, cheap, made in China stuff in Rüdesheim, so buyer beware.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I will be in Rudesheim on a Friday in July on a river ship. I should have elaborated when I said I see two restaurants near by. I was talking in the area of the monuments. Ms. Jo could you elaborate on " (the scaffolding came down about 2 years ago)" Was there a accident or something I should be aware of? One restaurant I was thinking of Stadt Frankfurt.

Fred said in his post that Germania was covered in scaffolding in 2013. I only noted that this scaffolding was gone. They were restoring the statue.

Have never eaten up on the overlook. Maybe read reviews on Trip Advisor for them?

Siegfrieds Musical Cabinet. You would love this, Nigel.
