I would go with the cheapest ticket since you have specific dates

First class has more leg room than Second class. There is about a $50 difference in prices between the 2 classes.

You know your travelling dates, so there is no problem to buy the »Super Sparpreis« or »Sparpreis« tickets, which bind you to a specific train. Most travellers are perfectly content with second class.
While reserving seats, I find open saloon with a table at the window the best. Choose opposite seats, guaranteeing that one of you is facing forward.

Thank you! I'm trying to select Open Saloon with table / Window / Across from each other. When I got in to select the seats I get a message "We regret that seats with the features you requested are no longer available. We can offer you the alternative seats shown here."

How do I know what type of alternative seats they are offering? They look to be across from each other but I can't tell if they are facing each other or I'll be looking at the back of my fiancés head! Haha!

When you click »Select seat« you get a scheme of the carriage. Seats with the same first decimal (the 20s, 30s etc.) are facing each other. Those in dark grey are available for reservation.

OMG I'm so frustrated. Now that I've selected all of my seats/reservations it won't accept any of my credit cards or my US bank. I'm confused!

Have you notified your bank/credit card issuer that you want to make a purchase in Germany? You need to let them know before you start the transaction, otherwise they may likely flag you as fraud because they your normal pattern isn't making purchases in Germany.

Always let them know where you will be travelling unless they tell you not to, and that includes internet overseas purchases.

It is frustrating when that happens. Luckily not very often. When it has happened, I use another credit card to see what happens.

I finally was able to purchase after the third try. Good to know security is tight!

Hopefully our seats are facing each other. I selected seats with the same 1st digit. Ex: Car 257 Seats 35/36

I also noticed it didn't ask for the 2nd passengers name. It shows I purchased 2 tickets but my name is the only one on it. Hope this isn't a problem!!

that is the normal way with names - just the person named on the first ticket is named.
