Rothenburg vs Nuremburg vs Bayreuth

We are currently staying in Stegaurach, a small village just south of Bamberg. We have 2 full days left in this area to visit and I just can't decide what to do those two days. Yesterday we spent in Wurzburg. Today we spent in Bamberg. We really enjoyed both - especially Bamberg, despite the 90+ degree heat (temps 30-35C today.

So for Saturday and Sunday, I need a plan. We have a car. Bus service easy, not sure about train as have not explored that as an option. There are 5 of us, so those "cheap" tickets add up. Today we drove to a park and ride and took the bus into Bamberg which was perfect and only 4.50 euro total for parking and all day bus use for all 5.

So thoughts?

Rothenburg (maybe short stop at Bad Windsheim) (about 90 minutes away)

Nuremburg (about an hour away)

Bayreuth (add Coburg and Plassenburg maybe) (Coburg is about 45 minutes and Bayreuth is about and hour)

Regensburg is too far - 1.5 - 2 hrs depending how we hit traffic

Iphofen & Marktbreit are so close to Wurzburg - maybe Rothenburg a better choice if we are going back that way?

Thoughts, ideas? Some options better than others? Traveling with 3 boys (13, 16, 18). Not big in to most museums but do enjoy history, super old stuff, war stuff and food...they love food! We are all about off the beaten path, so even in Bamberg we found places where there were few others.

Originally I had planned one day in Rothenburg and one in Nuremburg but now I am waffling a bit and just looking for some thoughts from the experts.

Any tips and ideas appreciated. I realize parking and traffic could be a bear.

Thank you!!

Coburg has one of the best castles in Germany (the best, in my opinion) and it contains a huge armory. How about that for war stuff for the boys?

Bayreuth probably has less to offer for teenage boys. If university was in session... well, I'm sure they could find something of interest...
