Our family joined the night watchman tour last night. I took the opportunity to have a couple side conversations with him as MANY of us strolled. After 35 years he plans to retire in October 2026. He is already training an apprentice, who will be leading the tour tonight (Sunday). About one month remains to see him for €9 per adult, meeting up at the Market Square at 20:00 for English tour.
I'm glad the tradition will continue. I have enjoyed his tours several times over the years. I wish him a healthy and happy retirement.
Thanks for sharing.
Took his tour many years ago and thought it was a hoot! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Wish him the best in a well deserved retirement. Glad to see he is training someone to carry on the tours.
Thanks Brian for sharing. I took his tour about 30 years ago. So glad he had such a long career and hope he enjoys his retirement. Glad to know that the tradition will still go on.
We were there on a Sunday night with the RS BoG tour in May. He wasn’t working that night so our group was scheduled with the Watchman’s Wife. I thought she was excellent!
Thanks for the heads up. We've taken his tour twice and really enjoyed a bit of conversation afterwards. I showed him a book "The Watchman of Rothenburg Dies" by Adriana Licio, a cozy German murder mystery. He was kind enough to autograph it for me. We wish him a very happy retirement. If we are back in Rothenburg, we will go to Zur Holl, and ask about him. And buy him a beer if we are lucky.
I took the tour 20 years ago and throughly enjoyed it. I’m happy to hear it will continue on. Happy retirement to the Night Watchman.
