We will be spending Christmas in Germnay this year. We are staying in Nuremberg for the bulk of our trip and doing day trips from there. I originally had planned to go to Rothenberg on Dec 23rd (it's the last day of their Christmas market). I'm worried that it is going to be even more packed with people. I had planned on going to Regensberg on Dec 26th. I'm wondering if we should switch those days? I know some things will be closed on the 26th as it is still part of the holiday, but I'm wondering if it will be less chaotic to go to Rothenberg on the 26th? Any input is welcome. TIA!
If you mean Regensburg and Rothenburg odT I recommend to edit and correct your title and text to ensure your choice is understood correctly. Other places are named Rothenberg for example.
Ok thank you.
Quite a lot of places will be closed on 26th in either place, it is a public holiday in Germany. So it comes down to what you want to do, and if it is available in either place on that day. Restaurants will likely be open, shops almost certainly closed. Museums are a case by case thing.
I’ve never been to the Alt-Rothenburger Reiterlesmarkt but it is probably spectacular. I have been to Regensburg’s various market many times. Its around the corner. The 26th in Regensburg will be dead other than restaurants, bars and tourist stops. You need to see both latest 23 December. You would be surprised how fast the markets tear down.
I'm going to edit this... Regensburg before the markets close is really nice. The streets are lit with holiday lights hanging over the olds streets. Tourist and locals together. Many restaurants, cafe and bars to visit. It’s been a favorite of mine for 20 years. I like the public markets all of them. Grand memories.
Thank you!
We were in Rothenburg in 2011 for their Christmas market. It’s not much
