Rothenberg for 2016 Christmas

My family and I will be arriving in Rothenberg 23 Dec, plan to see Christmas Markets and take Night Watchman's tour that evening. 24 Dec, we will see the town center and other sights. We plan to go to Midnight Mass. Christmas Day, we plan to go to the Christmas Museum and relax. We will leave 26 Dec.

Any suggestions on improving this agenda? Is there Midnight Mass there?

The Night Watchman has an apartment for rent. Would anyone recommend it? We want an apartment, not a hotel, for three nights and 4 adults.

Thanks for any feedback.

You might want to check the dates for the Christmas market. Most of them close on the 22nd or 23rd of Dec.
Things will shut down on the 24th, including all stores at 1300-14:00, all restaurants and usually all museums. You will need to find a hotel that is doing a Christmas eve dinner.
Reservations for Christmas Day dinner are recommended.
Check the website for the museum for opening hours on Christmas Day.
The 26th is also an official holiday in Germany.

A vacation apartment can be researched as "ferienwohnung" (FeWo abbr.) Rothenburg ob der Tauber on Google. There are several results. As Jo said, make sure you have plenty of food in the apartment over the holiday as many things will be closed. I noticed that the hotel I use for Christmas Markets in Rothenburg closes on the last day of the market. They take a vacation. It is a quiet time, making the town no less attractive.

I would contact the tourist office as it is special time of year. They would probably have a better idea of what is open and where you could find a Midnight Mass.

We plan to go to Midnight Mass.

As Rothenburg is largely protestant like most of the former imperial cities in southern Germany, there will probably not be a midnight mass in St. Jakob's, the main church. There will be, of course, one in the catholic church of St. Johannis, but the place might not live up to your expectations.
