Rodby - Puttgarden ferry

Hi Everyone,

I am fine tuning our trip and so excited about all the good suggestions. Has anyone taken the Rodby - Puttgarden ferry recently? We will leave from Copenhagen early on Tuesday August 27th and I want to make reservations but it appears that I make the reservation and can catch any ferry that day since they run frequently. I could not see if there was anything that we needed to do in advance regarding our passports as we are US citizens. Thank you in advance for your help.

Denmark and Germany are both Schengen area countries - once entered you can travel normally without border controls. Customs are still valid. On board you can buy some goods free of VAT.

Do you travel by car or train?

For car the Scandlines ferries offer 3 price levels with clearly defined rules. The ferries drive the whole day through because it is one of the most important road connections between Scandinavia and mid-western Europe.

With Flex tariff you will have no limits.
With Standard tariff you will have reservation guarantee on the booked departure and ticket is valid for all departures with free space on the booked day.
Be there on the printed time before departure. They do not wait.

My last journey is a while ago but I always liked driving this route.

Tip: Burg auf Fehmarn has a nice old town.
