Rhine in Flames/Rhein in Flammen St. Goar, Sat., Sep. 20 -- tips?

DH and I will be arriving in Bacharach this Saturday afternoon and were wondering if it is worth trying to go to St. Goar for the evening fireworks. I found this link online: https://www.rhein-in-flammen.com/st-goar-st-goarshausen-gb/program-st-goar-gb.html -- but am otherwise not sure what to expect. Is there a particular place or position that is recommended for viewing the fireworks, will there be food and wine stands, should we try to book a table at a particular restaurant that might have a view, etc? (The website mentions that tickets will be available but does not mention prices, etc. It also mentions something about a wine festival, market stalls, festival grounds, etc. but no specific locations or other details, so I am just wondering what to expect.) Thanks in advance.

You can easily take the train down to St Goar. But you have to understand they have been selling tickets to this all summer, and it will be crowded. Still, you may be able to get into Rheinfels Castle. It's been under renovation but their website says they will be open for the Rhine on Fire. Being high would give you a good panoramic view of the river, and there will be dozens of boats floating by all lit up. But another idea is just get a bottle of wine and some picnic stuff at the stands, and go sit along the river in the park. A lot of the locals will be doing this. The fireworks will be above you and the boats will pass by. The park is an easy walk, 5 minutes max, from the train platform. Expect the fireworks to start around 730pm.

The tickets are for party-boat cruises - for those who wish to be floating on the river shoulder to shoulder while overindulging.

You can just get off the train and walk ticketlessly down to the waterfront. The brochure link mentions the stage locations where the bands play. Fairground (Festplatz) and Rheinbalkon as well as Heerstrasse (main road in town, pedestrians only) will not be far off. The wine and food stands will be obvious. The small town will be crowded.

Bands on Saturday nght from 19:00:

This act is on a third stage: at.tension

Before that, different brass bands will be playing.

I never said you need tickets.

FYI the local tour groups sell group tour bus tickets to this event (and the other like events), so there will be extra tour busses bringing in people, plus those off the tour boats. It's not just the party boats.

If you need something else to do, I recommend making reservations for the evening meal at Schloss Schoenburg in Oberwesel. It's a fixed menu, but I've never had a bad one.

"tickets" - I wasn't responding to you, KGC, but to the OP, who asked about them as though they might be required for attendance.

Absolutely it’s worth going. The year we went it was drizzling rain off & on — we hadn’t planned ahead but we found some wine & a place to watch along the shore. It was so amazing. Have fun!
