Near Rüdesheim is the charming town of Eltville. Here you will find lots of wineries. Try Koegler perhaps?

Head up to Eberbach Monastery through the town of Kiedrich (even more wineries) and you will find one of the larges vineyards in Hessen. They have excellent wines here and a beautiful ancient monastery. Take some time to tour the basilica here where they filmed "The Name of the Rose".

The largest winery at the Mosel (and certainly one of the best) is the Episcopal Winery of Trier. You can taste their wines in their restaurant & wine bar.

Sounds delightful! Any tips on getting from Rüdesheim to Eltville/Koegler? Since we are on a cruise, we don't have a car.
Thanks!

Be sure to check whether the winery your are interested in requires advance reservation. It does happen, especially at the higher quality levels. We were turned away in Bernkastel-Kues. And we got in another place through our hotel Concierge.

You can get a train at Ruedesheim to Eltville. The Weingut Koegler is about a 5 minute walk from the station. Take the No 172 bus from Eltville station up to Eberbach Monastery and Kiedrich.

Use the RMV website to get schedules. https://www.rmv.de/en/
You can buy a Gruppentageskarte for 16.40 EUR will cover all your transport for the day for up to 5 people traveling together between Ruedesheim, Eltville, and Eberbach Monastery.
