Rheinland-Pfalz Ticket Validity

I'm planning a trip to the Mosel region in May. I need to get from Heidelberg Hbf to Lieser Banhof stop (which is actually a bus stop) on the Mosel on a weekday and I can travel after 9am. I can create an itinerary on the DB site using Regional Trains from Heidelberg to Wittlich and then a bus from Wittlich to Lieser.

The best fare they give me is for the Quer-Durchs-Land-Tkt (51 Euros for 2 people) which covers all of Germany. The fare also says I need to purchase a bus ticket for the last portion which would be on the VRT network. I am wondering why I can use the Rheinland-Pfalz Regional Ticket (32 Euros for 2 people) for the whole trip since my itinerary is within the boundaries on the DB map of the Rheinland-Pfalz ticket validity and that is supposed to cover trains, buses and other means of transport in the region. Is there another search engine just for the Regional Train pass validity?

Thanks,
Julie

No trip beginning in Heidelberg is covered entirely by the Rheinland-Pfalz Ticket. While some destinations just outside Rheinland-Pfalz ARE eligible with this day pass, Heidelberg is not and never has been AFAIK. I believe Mannheim is the first R-P destination on your planned journey, so you'd need to ticket the H'berg > Mannheim segment separately (VRN fare, maybe €5 each) if using the R-P ticket. There is a flawed map at the DB site which appears to show this taboo travel segment as eligible. Maybe that's what you saw.

The bus trip between Wittlich and Lieser is covered by the R-P Ticket, even if this fact isn't indicated at present on the DB site.

The Deutschlandticket (€49/mo each for unlimited regional travel around the country) should be in effect as of May 1 so you may want to get your hands on 2 of those. Details should be forthcoming.

Thanks Russ. I thought I was missing something. It's surprising that the DB map is incorrect but it makes sense because the trip planner didn't allow me to purchase the ticket as the map indicated. I also wondered about the new Deutschland ticket and whether I could purchase that for just a month of travel without a German bank account. Time will tell. It's good to know the R-P ticket will cover the bus because I will be in the area several days and may be taking Day Trips from Lieser. Of course the Deutschland ticket should also cover the bus so I'll just have to wait and see whether Americans can purchase the new ticket without a real subscription. I like the simplicity of the single ticket concept.
