Rhein Hotel in St. Goar

Does anyone know what is going on with the Rhein Hotel in St. Goar? I contacted them several times regarding room reservations for May, 2021, and have not received a reply. Did they go out of business?

I often come across questions like this at this time of year. Many small-town, family-run businesses in the Rhine/Mosel region shutter their doors and windows and enter a state of winter hibernation for long periods. And that often means they do not answer their business phones or respond to emailed inquiries. I imagine the Covid-19 situation might make their silence more likely and longer lasting as well. I would give them a few more weeks.

I submitted my reservation first through the website, and later sent an e-mail. My guess is Russ is probably correct with his response. Thank you!

My guess would also be like Russ's - that they just aren't attending to their website in the off season, although I am disappointed that they would leave the "reservation request" page active and then not monitor it. I know in November, 2008, I made a stop in Bacharach hoping to get to see the inside of "Im Malerwinkel" (for future reference), only to find it boarded up tight for the season.

If you don't want to wait until spring to get a confirmed room in St Goar, you might try Hotel am Markt. I don't know if they are attending to their website either, but it is worth a try. I stayed there in 2017 and would recommend it. It's on the market square, just down the hill from the train station and close to the K-D dock.

May is months away and tourism will not be booming. It is not something I would worry about right now.
Every winter, the Rhein just shuts down and this winter is worse as hotels are not allowed to have tourists stay in them. That means employees have all been let go or on super reduced hours.
Wait until March. They have your email and will answer it when they get to it. If you want me to call them, let me know. It is free for me.

and if they did reply it may have gone into your spam filter instead of your regular email browser - your browser may not recognise the email address and have tried to save you from an unknown.

Have you looked there?

I have stayed at this hotel, it's amazing! Gil closes the hotel in winter and takes a holiday until about March. I agree he'll get back to you when he is online again. You can book through Booking.com (but not until he gets back and opens the calendar). If you're super nervous, make a refundable reservation somewhere else while you wait for him to respond.
