I have tried to search the following topic with no luck. Awhile ago I got a German train ticket that has two legs -- Munich to Salzberg and then Salzberg to Budapest. I got reserved seats. I was able to pick the seats for the first leg, but not the second. Do I need to do so now? Will they be randomly assigned? How will I know where they are? Thanks!
Someone asked me about the route. The routes are Munich to Salzberg (where I chose my reserved seats) and Salzberg to Budapest where I was not given an option to choose the seat.
Did you buy them on the Deustch Bahn site?
https://www.bahn.com/en/view/booking-information/index.shtml
Yes I did. The site allowed me to specifically reserve for the first leg but not the second. When I go back on the site, I see my ticket but not a way to add the specific seats. I do not mind if they are randomly assigned but I do not know where to go for my seat.
When I just looked on the website, I noticed that there was a 9 euro charge for my first leg and not my second. When I purchased the tickets, I thought buying the reserved seats would apply to both legs of the trip. Is that an incorrect assumption? In other words do I need to purchase a separate seat reservation for the second leg?
Also on the ticket both legs show a Res. Nr. Does this mean seats are reserved for both legs of the trip? If so, how can we view our seat numbers? Also there is something abbreviated as Pl. on both legs. Is that possibly the seat number? I can text a photo of the ticket if it is useful.
Sorry, so confused....
I would go to the ticket office in Salzburg a day before to reserve a seat. I do not see a way to do this online.
It is hard to say. Deustche Bahn sold you a ticket for a train service operated by RailJet is Austrian Railways?

Maybe someone on the forum can clear this ip
Okay so I have done a little more research -- let me check if this is correct:
We have for the first leg Wg. 24, Pl. 32 38.
Can I assume we are in car 24 and seats 32 and 38?
On the second leg (unselected by me!) we have Wg. 24 PL.95 97
So can I assume we are in car 24 with seats 95 and 97?
Thanks for confirming or clarifying.

That sounds right
If you don't have seat assignments on your ticket open seating would apply. If you change trains in Salzburg, you could do a last minute check at the tricket counter or you call OBB.

You can reserve a seat on domestic ÖBB trains for as little as 3 Euro.
Trains on which a seat reservation is possible or even required are
marked accordingly in the rail schedule.

Completely correct. But what do you mean by "unselected by me"? You could not choose the seats in a map of the train? That is normal; DB may not know the exact layout of that train (not operated by them), but can still sell reservations.
You are correct - you have reserved seats for both legs. But the DB cannot let select you a seat on an Austrian train that doesn't originate in Germany. It can just pass your request to the OeBB.
Hi CTCWASH- Yes, you have seats for both legs reserved as you listed. The same thing happened to me when I purchased 2 tickets on line from Bahn.de for Munich to Paris for the end of September. The first leg is Munich to Stuttgart and I was allowed to pick my seats. The second leg from Stuttgart to Paris did not allow me to pick my own seat but when I selected Open Carriage , quiet zone, with table, I got the type of seat for this leg located where I wanted. I suspect it was because the second leg is not all German or the reservation was more than 3 months out. At any rate, both of us are good to go...
Have a great trip!!!
PS- I do not think the seats 32 and 38 are together (maybe on purpose?). I think the seats on the second leg are together. Since 32 and 38 are on the first leg you may be able to change them (if you wish) on line. Or you can check with the help desk at any train station in Germany as quick as you get to Germany and try to get the seat reservations changed to side by side or across the aisle...
The seat assignments on RailJet are side-by-side, according to a seating chart that I referenced.
Thank you all for clarifying how these tickets work and why i was not able to select the seats for the second leg (originating in Austria). What I meant by "unselected by me" was that I did not select those seats myself; they were assigned to me.
Laura, thanks for checking that the seats are side by side. Much appreciated !
I thought it weird that we didn't get to select seats when I got bought them, and because I didn't now how to read the ticket I didn't realize they had assigned me seats.
