rental car in Europe

I understand you cannot drive in Munich city center? If you have a rental car, and a hotel nearby, is thee generally parking at the hotel or do you need to leave the car outside the city ?

Parts of the city center are for pedestrians only, but for the most part, you can drive. Traffic can be unpleasant during busy times, and parking is difficult to find or expensive. Not all hotels have parking garages, but a lot do. They will charge for parking, however. Public transport is pretty good, so you will not really need a car in Munich.

While there are some pedestrian-only parts of Munich, there's actually a giant rental car garage about a block from the main Munich HBF station smack in the middle of town. (Picking up or dropping off a car there is not exactly a fun experience though)

If you're willing to go a few U-bahn or S-bahn stops out from the city center, you can generally find a hotel within a block of the train station that is either parking-included or charges only a relatively modest overnight parking fee.

You definitely don't need a car in Munich proper. Your call if it's better to just park a longer term rental for a few days or to end one rental when you get to the city and start another one when you leave as needed.
