As stated in our earlier topic my wife and I will be renting a car in Munich in September. We will be driving eventually to Colmar, France and then to a small town Eloyes, France. We want to visit Eloyes because that is where my father was killed in WWII. We will be driving back to the Mosel River area (Beilstein) in Germany to continue our Germany trip for another week. We will return the car in Frankfurt. The most direct/fast route appears to be through Luxenbourg. Do we need any special permits to drive from Germany into France and Luxenbourg? We will be getting international drivers permits. Thanks again for your help.
No special requirements for France and Luxembourg.
Your car needs a green emissions sticker for driving into urban areas in Germany, but it will have one already affixed if the car is registered in the country.
Also no border controls. You will drive freely.
It would be out of the way by a little bit, but if you were to stray into Switzerland, you would require a vignette, basically a toll pass, but that is easily avoided in route planning. Other than that get an International Driving Permit from the AAA over here just to cover that requirement.
