Trying to get from Berlin to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in June. We are planning on renting a car at some point along the journey. Would it be advisable to take the train to Munich and then rent the car there? Is there a better plan?

If you are trying to get to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, why not just take the train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and rent a car there if you need it?
Have to agree, pick the car up in Garmisch.

Why don't you just pick up a really cool car in Berlin and drive to Garmisch? I would do that and whenever possible drive that thing full speed on the Autobahn :-) Yes not so good for the climate but if one is having the chance doing that why not?
