Rent a home in Rhine Valley

Travelling with a group of adults to Germany next summer. We will be in Berlin for a few days and then would love to rent a house in Rhine Valley for 4-6 nights. Need 5+ bedrooms.

I'm not having success on Airbnb or VRBO. Are there other more local sites I should consider or other ways I can find a home to rent?

Thanks!
Kate

Any town or city you are interested in can be accessed by using the town name and the .de domain. For example, you can find Boppard lodging information by going to boppard.de. There will usually be a "tourismus" link there, that will then take you to accommodations.

Some will be small hotels, but there will also be apartments and holiday homes (aka ferienwohnung). That's how I found an apartment I stayed at in NW Germany a few years ago. For whole houses, look for "holiday homes" if it's in English, or "ferienwohnung" if German.

ferienwohnung, often abbreviated on websites and in common usage to FeWo.

Kate, if you want to use your whole name including middle initial as your name on the Forum that's fine, just be advised that like most public forums we get our fair share of spammers and people willing to take your identity. Most are a bit more circumspect, FWIW.

I think your options will be extraordinarily scarce.

I assume you prefer to be in a riverfront town near the River for cruising and easy getting around. An option you might not have considered: Rhine hostels. The Bingen, Bacharach, Kaub and St. Goar hostels belong to the officiahl DJH/HI organizations. Don't shriek. These hostels have been remodeled and modernized in recent years to attract families and couples and offer an opportunity for groups like yours to stay together in hotel-room-like situations (private bath, doubles, triples, quads.)

The Kaub hostel is in an historic building near the waterfront and the Rheinsteig hiking trail. The others are located higher up and are a substantial climb from town.

This video consists of an interview with the Kaub hostel manager and provides a look at the interior of the hostel as well as a few of its guests. It's in German, but have a look. The two older male customers are former ferry captains who enjoy the hostel's view of the Rhine while they talk about old times. Obviously, hostels aren't strictly for young'ns anymore.
