Regensburg Germany- walk or taxi?

We are flying into Munich and plan on taking bus to Freising. Then take train to Regensburg HBF. (Is that still the best way to get from Munich to Regensburg).? Does anyone know if it is safe to use Uber or taxis at the regensburg train Station? I see that it estimates a 6 minutes drive or a 20 minute walk to our destination. I expect the sidewalks and streets to be brick or stone, so probably hard on the luggage wheels, if we were to walk. Any advice on getting to our rental? Thanks! Kathy

Have you checked the public transportation? i usually drive to Regensburg so I'm not the best to ask, but with luggage I'd just grab a cab or the bus.

No Uber in Germany. Yes, taxis in Germany are safe.
I walk down cobblestone streets all the time with my rolling suitcase. Doesn't seem to bother them.

The bus to Freising and train to Regensburg is the way that we would travel. The Bayern ticket covers the bus as well as the train. We have stayed in Regensburg several times and always walked from the station. From the station to the pedestrian zone is about 3 blocks on smooth sidewalks. From there it is flat even surfaces. We are staying right down town in April. I am sure that we will walk. If you are staying out from the city center, you are unlikely to see many cobblestones. Regensburg is one of our favorite towns. Hope that you enjoy yourselves.

No need to take a bus to Freising to catch the train as there is direct train service from the airport to Regensburg now. Runs every 28 min past the hour from 8:28am until 7:28pm. Check on Bahn.com for more details.

Once in Regensburg just take a taxi if you don’t feel like walking after your trip.

Last summer we did a day trip to Regensburg - so no luggage - but walked all over the city (certainly more than 20 minutes from the train station) and I think it would have been fine with luggage. How big is your bag? I just looked at my photos from Regensburg to see if I could remember what the streets/sidewalks were like. It does look like cobblestones mainly but they are the 'flatter' variety and were in pretty good shape. https://andiamo.zenfolio.com/p146886806

The first ÜFEX train departs from MUC at 5:28, the last one at 00:28 (no departure at 23:28).

Thanks sla! That’s a better schedule than I thought based on my two second search of a random date in the summer from my phone.

Thank you all so much for this very helpful information. I really appreciate it. I'm especially thrilled to hear about the new train from Munich airport straight to Regensgurg.
