Recommendations of where to stay in Berlin

Planing a trip for two adults in Oct 21, if the world allows. Looking for recommendations of where to stay in Berlin. Need to be in an area close to public transport as we will be coming in by train. Does not need to be a specific hotel but also good areas of the city.

Please describe what you would define as a good area of the city.

In general you can search along the S-Bahn axis between Savignyplatz and Warschauer Straße but the Kieze (neighborhoods) are very different.

Please be aware that Berlin has special regulation against illegal usage of living spaces, so better book hotel instead of apartment with unclear legal status.

Hi,

You might want to check out the Hotel Pensione Ingeborg in the Savignyplatz neighborhood. It is within a few minutes walk to two different train/subway stops: Savignyplatz and Berlin-Charlottenborg. It is also in a great, hip, safe and clean neighborhood with really great restaurants and cafes. I really, really enjoyed it there. The hotel was clean, neat and spacious and came with a nice breakfast buffet in the price of the room. When I was there last, they had rooms with half baths and others with shared bathrooms down the hall.

It is within walking distance of the Tiergarten and the Charlottenborg Palace. From the Tiergarten, the Brandenburg Gate and the Mitte are only a bit longer of a walk.

Best of luck

The Hotel Carmer is in the same neighborhood as the one suggested by John. I stayed there in 2016 and found it to be a clean, well-managed and welcoming accommodation. The staff was professional and provided superb service when I needed help communicating with DB Bahn.

Hotel Pension Columbus, walking distance from the Zoo train station. We have stayed twice at this small family-run place, love the cooked-to order eggs and homemade yogurt; city bus at the end of the street goes to many tourist sites or take U-bahn; elevator.

Look around the Gendarmenmarkt area. It's central and near transit. We stayed at the Hilton on the square and enjoyed it but that was back in 2003.

ABOUT 10 years ago we stayed at Pension Peters in a family room in the same area as mentioned above. Great area and room, but no A/C. Last year it was sold out so we stayed at the Hotel Riu Plaza Berlin close to the same area. Maybe one subway stop away from Pension Peters. It has A/C. Big nice modern hotel. Two different kind of experiences but I enjoyed both.

I second LauraB suggestion of Hotel Pension Columbus. It was in a good location close to the bus, S and U bahn. The host are great and the breakfast is wonderful.

We stayed at the Melia hotel on Friedrichstrasse in 2019. It's two short blocks from a main train station and right on the Spree River within walking distance of Museum Island, the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate. It's smack in the middle of the Mitte (that's redundant) and short train trips to some great neighborhoods.

I would suggest going on Google Maps and plotting where the sights are that you want to see, and then picking a hotel. We were supposed to go to Berlin this summer and obviously had to cancel, but we ended up choosing a hotel by KaDeWe in West Berlin based on it being right by a metro stop and also the shortest train ride to most attractions that we wanted to see. I will say that Berlin is really spread out and the attractions are all over the place so know that you will be riding the metro or taking taxis quite a bit.

You can find a map with western and eastern center as well as main sights here.

I really like the Motel One chains and have stayed at the one by the Hauptbahnhof twice and the one in Bellvue once. Clean, big beds, great showers, decent breakfast. Easy access to the trains.

Sadly, many hotels are going out of business and it is more and more each day.

We have stayed at the Hotel Zoe at the Hackescher Markt several times and found it very comfortable and conveniently near the S bahn (only a few stations east of the Hbf) and the Museum Island. If you want Museums the area is excellent and there are many hotels from which to choose.

I stayed at Pension Peters in Berlin and would certainly recommend it. At the present time they are not able to offer the buffet breakfast but hopefully they will be back to normal by October.

The Pension is within easy walking distance from Dicke Wirtin's Pub which is a great place for a meal or a pint. Unfortunately they're temporarily closed but will hopefully be open at the time of your visit.

We stayed at the Adina Apartment Hotel Berlin Hackescher Markt. It was close the Hackescher Markt station and within walking distance of restaurants and stores.
