Hello everyone. I will be traveling to Lake Constance for 2-3 days at the end of June. I have been looking for the best home base for my trip. I will travel by train and by bus as I will not have a car. I would like to stay on or near the lake. I would like to stay in a smaller town if possible with the use of public transportation. I do want to stay on the German side I have been told the views from that side are spectacular. My plan is to visit the flower Island as well as day trips around the lake. I would appreciate recommendations for a home base, hotel, and any good activity. I will need a single room and my budget is 100 to 120 euro per night. Searched but did not see anything recent on the forum for this area. Thanks all. Kelly
Ueberlingen is a lovely small town directly on the shore of the lake on the German side.
I can recommend the Hotel Ochsen, small, family owned and run, just steps from the lake promenade with an excellent restaurant and a very good breakfast. There is also outdoor seating as well as an elevator.
There is a very good Italian ice cream and coffee place close by and many interesting shops in the town, easily walkable.
The boat dock is a short distance away.
The owners will be happy to help you arrange whatever kind of activity you would like.
Meersburg would be another place you might try. Excellent bus along the northern shore of the lake.
You might also enjoy Lindau. Both the Lindauer Hof and the Bayrischer Hof are good hotels.
Meersburg is exactly what you're looking for. The ferry comes straight in from across the lake and it's the cutest town ever.
