I am looking for recommendations for a good rental company that can be picked up from Munich train station. We will be arriving via train from Berlin and not staying in Munich. We will be heading over towards either Fussen or Rothenburg and sightseeing along the way. We will be dropping off at Frankfurt airport.
A few years ago we used Avis near the Main Train Station in Munich. The attendant was very helpful and programmed the GPS to English for us. Drove 10 days through Bavaria and enjoyed the beautiful countryside and very courteous German drivers. Safe travels….
If you choose Rothenburg:
Unless you have a specific plan already for "sightseeing along the way," you could save yourselves a lot of time and €s by getting off the Berlin > Munch train in NUREMBERG instead. Riding to Munich instead will add 1 hr. + of useless time on the train and even more driving time after that for the backtracking you'll have to do.
The 1.25-hr. route to Rothenburg takes you through attractive scenery and right through Bad Windsheim, a handsome old town with an outstanding "open-air" museum - a really nice place to stretch your legs and learn about life in Bavaria over the last 500 years.

Sixt is a reputable company that rents from Nuremberg's main station and partners with Autoeurope.
Another option is renting the car at the airport as then you don't have to drive in Munich. I don't know if the train stops there, but you can catch the S-bahn at the Munich train station for a quick trip to the airport.
