I stayed at an apartment just out of town since the city accomodations were full due to a special event. It was fine since the bus went to it.

In Tuebingen the Stocherkahn ( punt type boat ) is interesting, even without understanding the German language commentary. The Bebenhausen castle and Kloster north of town is interesting. Bus goes there, guide may give some commentary in English.

Burg Hohenzollern is best visited with a car but can be visited by train and bus.

Train ride to Sigmaringen is scenic and the castle there is interesting.

Castle in Tuebingen.

Marcopolko on the tripadvisor forum has lots of suggestions. Many need a car

We stayed in Schömberg (72355 ) June 2020. It's about a 50 min drive from Tübingen. Covid was winding down then, but masks and distance was still required. We only did a day trip to Tübingen, but enjoyed it. Nice old winding streets with timber framed houses and a walk in the park along the Neckar River. I remember the house with the "Hier kotzte Goethe" sign. Unfortunately Burg Hohenzollern and Schloss Lichtenstein were closed then. Old pics have us in light jackets. We drove.

To add... We visited Bad Urach years ago and it was nice. Whats left of the Heidengraben Kelten Oppidum was interesting. It is the largest in Germany. Burg Hohenneuffen too. The Urach waterfall is picturess if you like nature and a bit of a hike.

To add to the good suggestions above. Without a car and not too far.

Stuttgart has two auto museums, Mercedes and Porsche, if they hold any interest.

Esslingen old town.

Ludwigsburg has a good old town, and palaces and gardens. Don't know when you are going but there is a popular pumpkin festival held on some weekends.
