Check out the area around Oberstdorf. Hiking to the Seealpsee, the Schrecksee or the Älpelesattel can easily compete with the best of the Swiss, Austrian or Bavarian Alps. I have been to all, but the Allgäuer Hochalpen are just special. Reminds me of a mix of Alps and Isle of Skye. Pics below:
