Recommendation for a hotel in Munich close to train station.

Staying in Munich for two weeks May 18-June 1. Looking for a great valued hotel for two that would be close to the trains where we could go on day/overnight trips to the surrounding areas or to other countries within europe.

We would also like the hotel to be close to local transportation and nightlife in Munich and possibly close to where the big Rockaveria Rock festival will be on memorial weekend. Any suggestions? Does anyone know anything about Four Points Sheraton, Eden Wolff, or Relaxa Hotel or TRYP City Center Hotel or InterCity Hotel ?

Hotel Royal is a reasonably priced hotel a few blocks from the main train station in Munich.

Last year I stayed at the Münchner Kindl, a few blocks away, just inside the old town wall, and it was nice and also reasonably priced.

As for Rockaveria Rock, I don't know (nor do I really care).

The Eden Wolff (Arnulfstrasse) is an excellent hotel, English- speaking staff, good breakfast and an excellent restaurant--just across the street from the station. That's where I stay whenever I am in Munich.
Opposite the station on the other side (Bayerstrasse) is the Europaeischer Hof and Le Meridien, both also fine hotels. I have also stayed at these hotels--no complaints about any of the three.

We always stay at the Europassicher (heh.de, then click the British flag in upper right corner). It is directly across the street, has an awesome english speaking staff, great prices especially if you book far in advance, buffet breakfast can be included in the price and its really good with a good variety. The u/s bahns are right there, tram stop directly in front, easy walk to Marienplatz and several bus stops around.

The Intercity City is across the street and attached to the Haupthbanhof. I have not stayed at that one but have stayed at Intercity Hotels in other cities and we love them too. A lot of times they have either included breakfast or a local transit card that is good for your entire stay.

Hi,

The InterCity Hotel is located next to the Burger King as you exit from the station to Bayerstrasse. It's a good and convenient place to have breakfast after arriving in Munich Hbf on a night train.

kristy,

Another vote for Hotel Royal. I was back there again in September, and it's very comfortable and only about a five minute walk from the main Hbf. The area outside the hotel could be described as a bit "colourful", but that doesn't bother me in the least, as the hotel is a wonderful oasis of tranquility compared to that. They also serve a great breakfast!

I love Munich, but I would not stay in Munich for 2 weeks especially if you're looking to do day-trips to other countries??? No way, get on the train and actually GO to those places you want to visit and stay there for a few days. You've asked a similar question in another RS post and specifically you said you want to visit Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Wengen, Jungfrau on a day trip from Munich. That's just impossible. There are not enough hours in the day to do that. Catch a train from Munich and go although it will be a long train ride. Munich to Lauterbrunnen is 7.5 - 8 hours one way. Jungfrau will take 2 hours on the train from Lauterbrunnen. You can see how this is just not possible, can't you?

You need to rethink your itinerary. www.bahn.de or www.sbb.ch are the national rail sites for Germany and Switzerland. Use these sites to get an idea of the length of your various rail journeys.
