I am trying to get excited about a trip to Munich, and the only reading material my library has about Munich is all about Nazis- not what I am looking for. Anybody have any suggestions?
Not sure what kind of material you are looking for, I get excited just looking at guidebooks! It's true that in terms of fiction you are not going to find a lot of tales set in Munich, that I can think of (unlike say Paris or Venice). Nonfiction (in English anyway) will be skewed toward the two World Wars. Maybe expand your search to Bavaria. More broadly, the Culture Shock Germany book is a light and entertaining read. To be taken with a grain of salt, since it's the opinion of the author, of course.
Perhaps try to find a book about Ludwig II, or the Wittelsbach family (royal house of Bavaria) more generally. The various building projects of the dynasty probably count as their primary historical legacy, and reading about the family will probably provide some context to several of the palaces, monuments and churches you will likely visit.
I can refer you to the below website, that will have more than its share of castles and palaces in Bavaria (and in Munich itself).

In addition to that, there are plenty museums, there are excellent dining experiences, and if you like German football then you can do a tour of the Alliaz Arena.
I will be going to Munich this year (after an 18 year hiatus between visits to Munich), so this is part of the research that I have done.
