Rain in Munich- how interrupting is it?

We reach on the 21st of June and it seems from today until the next 10 days, there is rain almost everyday. So I thinking it will not change much when we reach there. How heavy are these rains and does it really interfere with your travel plans? We are there for 5 days, so really hoping we can enjoy the city and not get stuck interior due to the rains.

We had the same problem on one of our trips. Each day it was going to rain up to 80% chance on a few days and the rest were 30 to 50%. We got rain three days and continued on with our planned activities. The rest of the time we didn't get any rain. So, unless you can see a forecast beyond your arrival time, who knows what the rain may or may not be. I come from Pennsylvania and our summer rain could last for days while here in CA., the storm comes in and is usually gone a few hours to a day or so later. Hopefully you won't have rain like you did in SF this past winter. We had enough but a lot less than you got.

I am sure someone from Germany will pipe in with what you might expect. Rain during a vacation is just not right! Here's hoping you have nice weather!

There is no such thing as a reliable forecast beyond three or four days. The farther you get beyond that, the more it becomes pure guesswork.

So I thinking it will not change much when we reach there.

Why do you think that? There is no way to know. You might have a look at weather diagrams of previous years, but even that is only going to give you a probability.

How heavy are these rains and does it really interfere with your
travel plans?

They may be light or heavy, but they are most definitely going to interfere with your travel plans if you are not appropriately dressed.

get stuck interior due to the rains.

If someone traveling to Germany gets stuck indoors due to rains, they didn't read their guide book.

When traveling to Germany, take a raincoat. Always. At any season, period.

Go by the saying we have: "There is no bad weather. There is only bad clothing." :-)

If I had to be in a place where I might need to confront protracted inclement weather , I can't think of a better place than Munich ( Paris , and London , as well ) . Numerous art museums , the Deutsche Museum , The NS Dokumentation Center , endless choices . Besides , the forecast of continual rain is unlikely . As my wife is fond of saying , just walk between the raindrops !

Since you ask about the light and the heavy rains, I'd like to add one thing:

If I could choose between the two, I'd choose the heavy rains. No, I'm not kidding. Heavy rains come pouring down for a short time, and then they're over. Light rains can drizzle down for days on end, the days being grey and unpleasant.

Now how does that help you? Not at all, I'm afraid, since you don't get to choose between the two. ;-)

Edit:

Ha! Now I found the solution. You are simply looking at the wrong weather forecast.
Have a look at this one:

A few thunderstorms tomorrow, but other than that, sun only. Not sure where your forecast gets all that rain.

Remember: Always pick the forecast that has the weather you need! ;-)

We take some kind of light, water-resistant wind breaker to Germany and plan to buy inexpensive umbrellas once we get there - if needed. It is seldom needed. As already mentioned, heavy rains are usually of a short duration, about enough time for a cafe break.

I went to France and Germany in May, and before I left the forecast had rain every day I was there. I ended up getting a few sprinkles one day, and rain overnight once. In 2015 for an Italy trip, the forecast was the same. I had two days of rain then. My point is even with a forecast of all rain, you won't necessarily get rain. Be prepared for it. If it comes, during the worst of it do something inside. With light rain I still walk around and do my outdoor sight seeing. When I was going up to Eagles Nest in Germany in 2010 it was the first cloudy and rainy day in several days of sunshine and clear skies. I was disappointed. On the bus ride there, I met someone with a better attitude about it than me. He commented that even with the rain it would be okay. It would just look more "mystical." He was right. So I learned to keep a positive attitude and to not let rain interfere with my enjoyment of my trip. Enjoy and I hope you also experience that the forecast for all rain is wrong!

My experience living in Germany over four years was that heavy rainfall usually occurs primarily in the summer, and it doesn't last long. At most, it forces you to duck for cover for an hour or so. Lighter rain can occur at any time of year, and it can last briefly or for days. The lighter showers rarely cause you to change plans, other than perhaps hiking.

Thank you all for the responses. Yes, at this point, I can pray it doesnt rain, but if it does, I will keep all your words in mind, and continue to enjoy as much as we can.

Funny thing is, now (which is a day before going), it shows no rain but the weather seems unusually hot in Munich and surrounding area. 85-90 degrees F!! Well, we will continue getting roasted and toasted (as we are right now in Spain)!
