What to do in Freiburg. We suddenly have two days beginning September 15.
The town is nice just to wander, see the sights, a nice town square, a cathedral. The bachle, channels with water, are neat, kids will float boats in them. If the weather is warm, at one wine shop you can get a glass or bottle and a snack, and sit on the curb with your feet in the water. There are lots of shops and stores, it is a pretty active market town. There are a couple museums, some beer gardens, and the restaurants are great. If you want some activity, there are plenty of hiking trails.
I'd spend one of the days, at least half a day, at the Keidel Bad, just south of town in a wooded area at the end of a fast, easy, frequent bus from town.
My fav Therme, a great place to chill out. https://www.keideltherme.com/
If you have any interest in old cars take the train to Mulhouse (1 hour), that's where the huge French National Auto museum is.
We really enjoy some time spent at the Kastaniengarten atop a cliff overlooking the city. If you approach it from the town there is an elevator in the cliff to take you up to the Biergarten. BTW I’ve had the best rhubarb bottled fizzy drink there too.
Thanks to both responders!
If you haven't made your mind up yet for the 16th and it's a nice day. Take the train to Bad Krozingen then walk along the creek from Bad Krozingen to Staufen. It's a pretty, flat walk and Staufen is a lovely village. Walk or train back from Staufen.

If not too much to ask, it might be worthwhile if you come back and let us know what you wound up doing, likes and dislikes.
It would be helpful to other travelers who find this thread.
