Questions about Munich Germany

Hello,
We will be in Munich for a couple of days before our Innsbruck Austria Christmas Market tour starts, and then again before heading to Zurich for a few days. We of course land at the Munich airport, and would like to know how to get to the Movenpick Airport hotel. I don't mind taking a taxi, but if there is an airport tram that goes there, that would be easier.

An additional question is if there is a train station neat this hotel or is it best to go to the airport and get on the train for Zurich? Speaking of trains, there seems to be many to choose from. Are they all the same, or do you have one that you recommend?

Thank you,
Bert

Bert, welcome. I have to ask, why not go directly from Innsbruck to Zurich rather than circling back to Munich? Going back to Munich and then to Zurich will take up a whole day. Especially all the way back to the airport, when the long distance trains leave from the main rail stations (Bahnhofs) in town. The U-Bahns and S-Bahns are local public transport. You'd likely have to take them to get to the main rail stations, where the real train starts.

Train choices are based on the times you want to go, and the ticket prices, not specific trains.

I don't personally know this hotel but it is outside the airport area in a nearby suburb called Halbergmoos. It's probably best to get a cab there from the airport. Halbergmoos has a railway station which is linked by a bus from just outside the hotel, the station is the first one towards Munich on the line from the airport (no fast trains between the airport and central Munich, only suburban ones, and no long-distance trains to anywhere else).

Unless you've already booked it and can't cancel, it would be much better to stay at a hotel in central Munich rather than the airport one. There are through trains from Munich central station (Hauptbahnhof in German, often shortened to Hbf on maps or local transport timetables) to Zurich, the best place to book is on the official German railways (Deutsche Bahn) website at www.bahn.de. Other places you find on search engines will only be reselling Deutsche Bahn tickets, sometimes at a markup. You can get significantly cheaper tickets if you buy in advance. Make sure to leave plenty of time to get from the hotel to the Hauptbahnhof in the morning when you book the train.

Thank you both for the reply. The reason for staying at that hotel before heading for Zurich is that it is the final 2 days of the Collette tour. They pay for the hotel nights, so it is not cost effective to change. That is the same reason that we do not go to Zurich directly from Innsbruck. We would lose out on the paid for sightseeing and meals around the Munich area.

Taking a taxi to the hotel will be on the front side of the trip. We land a couple of days before the start of the tour, so taking a taxi sounds like the best option. I just didn't want to take the taxi to the hotel and see the airport tram outside the door.

Thanks again!

Taxi to the Movenpick is best. There is a bus but it takes 30 minutes for a 5 minute ride.

From MUC take the S8 train to the main Bahnhof, that's the direct one.
