Question on RS discounts

What does the guidebook say? Perhaps try contacting the property. I have had mixed success in getting a discount listed in the guidebooks. Sometimes the hotel changes its policy after publication date.

The guide book says 10% with this book but a lot to lug oN a 30 day self pack and carry trip. 10% at this store is a lot as East German nutcrackers can cost several 100 euros. Thanks

Try sending the store an email. Is it in the current RS Germany book? If so, contact the RS office. There’s a “Contact Us” in the blue box at the bottom of this page.

While I would point out that East Germany ceased to exist over 35 years ago, if you are willing to buy and carry around several hundred euros worth of nutcrackers, you can carry the Germany guidebook and throw it away after you get your discount.

I have about a dozen nutcrackers from KW, and I will warn you that they will be quite bulky once they are safely wrapped and boxed. I resisted the temptation to throw away the boxes to save space, and 20+ years later am glad I did, as they are still pristine.

I shop at Kathe Wohlfahrt all over Germany but never asked for a RS discount. Please tell me more like where you saw the info, which stores, do pop up stores in Christmas markets count?

First of all thanks for the feedback. I've been traveling to Germany well before the wall came down but appreciate the education.

We will have them ship our purchases home. My hopes were to cover the shipping charges.

Just a heads up on recent changes in shipping items home.

For previous trips, I happily paid for shipping (typically DHL) to my doorstep. However, based on my recent experience, a case of wine; for the time being I am avoiding shipping things home - I will put any “extras” from my trip in my carry-on (or checked bag if needed).

Here is the timeline for the case of wine. The tracking information for the package included a notation that "starting August 7, the United States will apply updated customs tariffs on imports from the European Union. As a result, your shipment may be subject to: Longer customs clearance times; Additional duties or import related costs."

The case was shipped from Italy on July 8th and arrived in Memphis, Tennessee on July 12th where it sat for over 3 weeks until it was released by the FDA and US customs on August 4th. Note that this was before the "updated customs tariffs on imports...[that} may be subject to longer customs and clearance times; additional duties or import related costs."

There was also a small duty/tax/import fee (around $20), again before the "updated customs tariffs." It may be that the case took longer to be released because 2 federal agencies (not just 1 - Customs and Border Control AND the Food and Drug Administration ) had to clear the package. I suppose I am overstating the point (apologies) that shipping from Europe to the USA is much different now.

Great info, we will have to rethink how many, if any we will purchase. I'm a push over for anything Christmas and love their shops.

When thinking how much of the RS book to bring, be sure to include the page about the discount. My guess is that it will depend on who is working at the check out desk at the time of purchase if they question your book. I have shopped at an Kathe Wohlfhrt every year and recently their shipping cost have skyrocketed. I have been quoted that shipping now starts at $100 or maybe it was 100 euro for whatever you want shipped!
So my question about the discount (which I found on page 393 of the newest Germany book) is:
Will the discount be applied at Kathe Wohlfahrt stores in Nurnberg, Heidelberg, Oberammergau, and Rudesheim and the many pop up chalets in the Christmas markets in Frankfurt, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, etc?
