Quedlinburg or Bamberg?

We're going to have 10 days for our whole trip to Germany and I was reading about the UNESCO villages. My initial choice was Bamberg because of the longer stretch of history, but it seems that Quedlinburg may have more to see (?). If we don't have much time, that may not be an issue, and depending on our route (we are taking trains), Quedlinburg is more out of our way.

It will be in September, so Christmas market choice is, sadly, not a factor.

Thanks!!

The two towns are somewhat different, somewhat of the same. Quedlinburg definately has a sleepier feel to it. Bamberg is a little grander and seems more "lived in"... mainly because, well, many more people live there. I wouldn't describe either as a "village" though. Quedlinburg is a pretty decently sized town, and Bamberg is a small city. Both towns are also in fairly interesting areas of the country, so not much of a distinguisher on that count either.

I would probably just go with the more convenient option for your overall trip.

Hi Liz-
I spent 2 nights in Quedlinburg and 3 nights in Bamberg in September of 2013. There is MUCH MUCH MORE to see and do in Bamberg. The city square was undergoing VERY extensive restoration in Quedlinburg. There are FAR FEWER dining options in Quedlinburg. The room rates are significantly lower in Quedlinburg. Most of Quedlinburg shuts down around 9-10PM. Bamberg was open much later. The public transport system in Bamberg is very good. IMHO your initial choice was correct!

Have a great trip!!!

Heartily agree on that point!
