Purchase of ISAR card

Hi all,
Well, it's getting close to our trip to the Oktoberfest. (SO says it's probably the last since we are getting elderly). It appears to me that we can purchase 2 ISAR tickets (one for each person) for one week of travel around Munich. And the purchase can be made at ANY MVV machine, not just at the HBF. ( I believe there are usually 3 different ticket machines at all of the S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations). And a photo is not required. And it is valid for one week starting any day of the week (unlike the Paris Navigo Découverte ticket). Can anyone confirm my understanding of the purchase rules and validity of the ISAR ticket?

Many thanks !!!

Absolutely correct . One caveat - The cards are a small paper ticket , check to see if they are pre validated . I recall if bought from the machine , they are . If not , be sure to stamp then in the franking machine before the first use

Not to hijack the thread, but I've looked at the City Tour Card and the ISAR card. Assuming we're actually planning to go to museums (in addition to drinking all the maßes of bier at Oktoberfest), why would my friend and I want to spend €126 on two ISAR cards instead of €110 on a group City Tour Card?

Hi Malthus-

thanks for the question "why would my friend and I want to spend €126 on two ISAR cards instead of €110 on a group City Tour Card?." Of course you are correct if you need the "entire network" ticket for 2 people for only 6 days. But the price for the City Tour card jumps from 109.90 € to 134.20 € for 7 days.

We plan to be in the Innenraum – (Center or white zone, which include all four tariff circles of central Munich) for 6 of the seven days (44.20 € for 2 people for the 7 day ISAR card vs. 57.90 € for the 6 day group city tour card for the Innenraum zone) and use the Aussenraum ( Outer zone only, or green, yellow, and red zones (tariff zone circles 5 – 16)) which costs 12.80 € for 2 people on the day I need to return the car to the airport. I don't know what your specific plans are so I can't do a direct comparison. But the ISAR card appears to be the best for us.

Have a great trip and save us a few maßes of bier at the 'Fest !!!

Kenneth, thanks. That makes a lot of sense. Given that we’re planning on getting out into the ‘burbs, so to speak, having the flexibility to go anywhere in the zone on any day during our visit makes sense for us, while our last few days we’ll be well outside the city and not even in the zone, so 6 and done is perfect for us.

Have a good time and we promise we’ll leave y’all some beer.

Prost!
