We will be in Munich for a short visit in June.
We have three full days and are using one for a day trip to Salzburg. We plan to visit Dachau as well. (Yes, I know this is a lot to fit in) We will need to get from the airport to hotel on the first morning and to the main train station on the fourth morning.
What's the most economic way to use the public transportation system? Daily passes? Multi day passes? We are staying at a hotel near Rosenheimer Platz.
Here is the site for Munich transport. You might look at a 3 day inner district pass, and pay the supplement to go to Dachau. Or buy group day tickets depending on what you are planning to do that day.

You can get to Rosenheimer Platz on the trains from the airport. You make it an all-zone day pass for that day.
I was there last year and used the Group Ticket (Gruppenkarte). It was great!!! Take the S-Bahn to your hotel from the airport. It's included in your ticket. I would just buy the ticket for the whole time you're there. You'll need to get to the train station and back the day you go to Salzburg anyways! You can also take the S-Bahn to the Muenchen Hauptbahnhof the last morning.
