Private Car from Munich Airport to Salzberg

Hi, hoping there are some travelers that have experience with hiring private cars in Europe and might be able to share how that went.. We are flying into Munich Airport later this month in front of our My Way Alpine tour through the Alps which begins in Salzburg, Austria.

We know that taking a train is one option but we’re seriously thinking about hiring a private cars for what I believe is an approximate 3 hour ride.

For those with experiences (or knowledge) we’d greatly appreciated any insights you have to share.

Regards,
Dave K.

Does this mean "hiring a car" as the Brits say it (renting a car in Americanese), or hiring a private driver with his own car, or something else?

Russ,

LOL, thanks for pointing that out.

I did mean hiring a private driver, private car to drive us from Munich to Salzburg.

Thanks

Assuming you mean a car service and driver, using Mydaytrip, I picked a random day this month and morning pick up. The least expensive car was around €320. Time would be 2-3 hours depending on traffic.

Traiin, with a connection at Munich Ost would cost €64 - 70 for 2 people and take a bit less than 2 1/2 hrs. A saving of over €250. I know which option i would pick, but as in all things, YMMV.

If you don't have a lot of luggage-and you probably won't if you are doing a tour, then the train is easy and comfortable to get to Salzburg.

Looks like no personal experience with hired drivers in Europe.

Thanks to all who responded.

(I do appreciate the details, options and cost comparisons.)

Thanks

Probably not for this trip, since there are frequent trains that are so much cheaper.

Thank you very much appreciated!

I've used daytrip.com a number of times. Last was Hallstatt to Salzburg. For me, the convenience under the circumstances was worth the cost ... which wasn't terrible.

Thanks Mr. E

Thanks JKH

Again, thanks to all that replied.

I’ll likely go through the reviews for each of the Companies mentioned and book a car.

Thanks again,

Dave K.

Dave, i always thought the daytrip.com service had better value when you did a stop or two along the way. They aren't guided tours, but they still give you the opportunity to see things you would miss if you did a train.

I'd change at Ostbahnhof instead of the Hbf, especially with all the construction at the Hbf.
