To finish my trip next summer I have 5 days left to reserve accomodations. We fly out of Munich and my question is - would you spend 3 days in Vienna and 2 in Munich or would you spend 3 in Munich.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
That is a tough one but depends on what you like to see. Vienna is wonderful, but I like the countryside of Bavaria around Munich! Both have their plusses!
What do you like to see or do????
Dan
Just wanted to know which city has more general things to offer. I have previously been to Bavaria and to the area around Saltzburg so I intend to stay in the city environs.
I visited Vienna just because it was a convenient stop between Budapest and Prague . . . and loved it. Great museums, a palace or two, charming parks, gorgeous architecture . . . much more Western than Eastern Europe. Oh, the opera too. Wish I'd had more than 2 days.
I was in Vienna for four days and it wasn't enough (but I dawdle). Plenty of things to occupy your time.
I was in both this past July and it was my second visit to each of them; if I were to go back to one a third time it would be Vienna. I love Munich and it's a great base for visiting other places but I think Vienna has much more to offer in the way of things to see and do in the city itself.
Thanks to all who have replied. While the beer incentive made the decision difficult I have decided to spend the extra day in Vienna from your suggestions.
I think you made a good choice. More history and more to see in Vienna. If beer would play a bigger role in your decision then it would be Prague with Munich close second.
You could easily spend a week in either one, so the number of things to see in them individually does not matter much.
I did find Munich more economical if that plays into the question. It was especially easier for me to find a really good basic meal at a good price in Munich. Read the menu carefully before entering a restaurant in Vienna; some just plain restaurants have cover charges and side dishes can be expensive.
