Pre-Paid SIM card for Germany & side trip to Salzburg / Innsbruck

Hi all,
I'll leaving for Germany pretty soon and need a Pre-paid SIM card with Data (voice is optional). My itinerary consists of 3 days Munich, 2 days Salzburg and 2 days Innsbruck. I have an unlocked GSM phone and would prefer to purchase one SIM which shall work in Germany and possibly through roaming work in Salzburg & Innsbruck. Main purpose for data: Google maps and to check train timings, connect with family on Skype and a bit of FB.

I am confused between Lebara, Vodaphone and Blau/Blauworld. There is a system by Vodaphone called CallYa where the send a free sim to your address and then you need to Top it up? I am staying at a Hotel, will their address be okay for activation? Which is the easiest method?

Are Blau prepaids such that they auto renew by default? Can anyone confirm?

Please help since I am clearly confused. You won't believe I had an easier time getting a Pre paid SIM at Japan. I simply want a good prepaid sim with Data which I use throughout my itinerary.

Thanks for your help.

I did see the wiki but it does not answer my question about a prepaid with no monthly contract which can work both in Germany and Salzburg (Austria). Thanks.

Roaming is generally possible with prepaid SIMs but according to this information

http://www.teltarif.de/mobilfunk/prepaid/roaming.html

all resellers of Telefonica (Eplus, O2) will charge you 0.23€ per MB which is near the EU regulatory limit. While Telekom and Vodafone based operators will only charge 0.05€ per MB on top of your original fee.

EDIT: Just saw this information was also in the wiki entry. So. All clear?

Thanks JJJ, it's clear. I got confused earlier between the different plans. :-)

Vodaphone seems to be the clear choice. I am interested in their Call Ya plan. So basically I order online a free SIM card (freikarte), which is already preactivated (so no registration) and the top the card up with the desired plan I need? Is this how the process goes?

"To cancel any of the data packages, visit wap.meincallya.de before the renewal date." If I am purchasing a set top up plan for prepaid. Why do I need to stop the renewal? Does it automatically charge my credit card after 4 weeks? Obviously, I can buy top up in supermarkets and prevent this I guess. But it's all so complex.

To cancel any of the data packages, visit wap.meincallya.de before the renewal date.

That is because CallYa is phone+data. It will automatically charge you each month for the "data package" as long as you have money loaded on the SIM account. So you need to cancel the "data package" if you want to return to phone only.

EDIT: Seems they have get lost in their own jungle. "Websessions" hasn't got a phone number so it's clearly data only. So, this whole sentence makes no sense.

Yeah exactly they throw so much terminology that it's just inconceivable.

But i really appreciate the time and effort you've taken to explain things. Thanks JJJ :-).

I think phone companies are the same all over the world. They make it impossible for you to find out if you signed up for a good deal or if you are being ripped off.
