Potsdam and Wittenberg in one day?

Hello, any advice on this topic would be appreciated. My wife and I only have 3 days in Berlin. I was planning on doing a day trip on one of the days. I would like to see Potsdam and Wittenberg, but not sure if this is possible in one day. I was thinking of taking an early train to Wittenberg since it is farther from Berlin, spend the morning there and then another train to Potsdam for the rest of the day/evening and back to Berlin on a late train. Anyone have experience with this?

Thank you,
Nate

Hi,

If you take the early S-Bahn from Berlin to Potsdam Hbf, tour Potsdam, etc, then want to go to Wittenberg, you still have to go through Berlin. Time wise it can be done as long as you reserve the entire afternoon for Potsdam. Tours for Potsdam meet/start at Potsdam Hbf.

I would suggest taking the early ICE train Berlin Hbf to Lutherstadt Wittenberg, walk from the station to the Altstadt. Signs point the way. Take the ICE back to Berlin Hbf, then take the S-Bahn to Potsdam Hbf., which is the terminus.

Hi,

I have visited by using a car both places in 2010, in Potsdam Schloss Cecilienhof, Schloss Sanssouci and the Marble Palace. In Wittenberg the Schlosskirche, the Lutherhaus and a guided tour. With a serious interest in these places you need seperate daytrips. Wittenberg is doable in one day, but for Potsdam you will need more.

It’s possible to do it in one day, but will not be a relaxed trip. Depends a lot how energetic you are, how your level of interest is and how far you are prepared to make a compromise.

If Luther is of serious interest, then you can consider visiting also his birthplace (Lutherstadt) Eisleben, with Luthers Geburtshaus and nearby church Petrikirche. Because of the Potsdam Conference is Schloss Cecilienhof the main reason to visit.

Hi,

The Potsdam bus tours include seeing Neues Palais, where you have time to get off the bus and tour with the guide, the same with Sans Soucci. But, afterwards, you can go back to Neues Palais on your own by bus from Potsdam Hbf. Neues Palais has its own guided tours for you to take part in.
