The union ver.di is calling employees of municipal public transport companies to go on strike on Monday. Buses and trains across Germany are expected to come to a standstill on Monday, Feb 2. Passengers should expect problems. Ver.di wants to put pressure on employers in the current round of collective bargaining.
Scope of public transport strike on Feb 2, 2026:
- All local transport providers in Germany (incl. Berlin's BVG, Hamburg's hvv, Munich's MVV, Cologne's KVB, ...).
- Subways, buses and trams will not operate the whole Monday.
- No strike in state Lower Saxony, e. g. Hanover.
- S-Bahn trains in nearly all German cities will operate; operator is DB.
- Deutsche Bahn (DB) will operate normal; staff of DB is not called to strike.
