Hi there,
We are a family of four travelling back from a few days in Murren in the New Year, eventually going to Stuttgart to fly home. Is there a good spot to stop mid way through the journey for a night, either in Switzerland or Germany? We are taking the train, but could rent a car once we get to Germany if that will help us get around. Close to the train line between Zurich and Stuttgart would be ideal.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
The fastest way between Mürren and Stuttgart does not go through Zürich, but through Bern, Basel and Karlsruhe.
I would choose Freiburg im Breisgau as a stopover; it is a beautiful town worthy of a few hours' exploration.
You could easily make it from Murren to Stuttgart in one day (at least we did Murren-Frankfurt in one day). If it were me, I would stop in Strasbourg, France. Depending on your connections, this is either directly on your route, or a very short detour across the river.
It would be easier to follow your plan if you had written this as a reply to your previous thread instead of starting a new thread.
Mürren to Stuttgart does not really need a place to stop on the way. But if you want to make a stop, Freiburg im Breisgau is not a bad option.

agreed with the two suggestions for Freiburg im Breisgau.
And I agree that it a stop on that short trip would be a nice not a needed.
Or you could take some time in Basel which also has a lot to offer.
