Place to stay in Heidelberg/Speyer

We are traveling to Heidelberg/Speyer on a trip to Germany. We are looking for a hotel/B&B in the area to stay for two days. About eight years ago I stayed in a hotel/motel in Speyer that was close to the Cathedral there but can't remember what it was called. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I stayed in a hotel once in Heidelberg before I moved to the region, but it was a pretty good one. Hotel Holländer Hof, right on the river by the famous bridge. The price was fairly reasonable, as I remember, and the room was surprisingly huge.

If want to consider staying in a castle upriver from Heidelberg- Schlosshotel Hirschhorn. I've never stayed here, but others who have seemed to be quite pleased. The town of Hirschhorn sits about a twenty minute drive upriver from Heidelberg. Probably slightly shorter ride on the Sbahn.

Schlosshotel Hirschhorn that Tom mentioned was one of the places we stayed! It was really really nice and not too expensive. The food and service there was amazing, (That was one of our splurge nights). The view from up there is amazing. I would caution if you do stay there, the road up there is steep. (rainy + steep + manual = small freak out) That entire area is so beautiful!

I would highly recommend the area east of Heidelberg in the Neckar valley.

We stayed at Hotel Regina in 2013. Loved the hotel. Room was large and there was a delicious breakfast. The hotel is on a quiet street and easy walking to the major tourist sites. There is paid parking if you request it otherwise you are on the street. On street parking is pretty sparse.
We would definitely stay there again.

Russell the youth hostel in Heidelberg is also an excellent place to stay as well if you are willing to consider that option as well. It is not just open to "youth" only. My wife and I got a family room there for pretty cheap.
