Picking up car near Munich/dropping off near Frankfurt or training to Berlin

we will be picking up a car on 6/21 in Munich and driving east and west in the alps, going to Rothenburg and Bacharach area of the Rhine in mid June.

My questions--

1-From which station should I pick up the car to head southeast to Alps? (prices don't seem to vary based on 4 city locations or airport)

2-Will be going to Rothenburg and then Bacharach/Mainz area of Rhine before heading to Berlin. Should I drop car in Frankfurt or drive to Berlin (airport?) Times don't seem to vary much. Could be just a cheap and quick by car.

Check google maps. My preference is to take trains or buses when they will do almost as good of a job as driving. I would drop the rental car off in or near Frankfurt. I am trying to figure out how to plan a trip also seeing Munich, Rothenberg, and Berlin, probably skipping the Mainz and Frankfurt area.

Pick up your car at the airport. Your trip south will be relaxing because you don't need to go near the city. Drop at Frankfurt airport. Your about 1 hour 30 minutes from the airport out of Bacharach area. Easy drop off at Frankfurt.
