Travelling from Salzburg to Paris, taking train from Salzbg to Munich and then flying to Paris from Munich airport. Flight does not leave till 6pm. Any tips on spending the day in Munich?

Arrival time in Munich is flexible, many trains from Salzbg to Munich. Can take early train if worth it, can take later train if not worth it and just head to Munich airport.

I guess it all depends on what you like to do in a city and whether or not you've been there before. I would certainly leave Salzburg early enough to have a full day in Munich. You can wander around the Marienplatz, check out the several old churches, visit a museum - the Deutsches Museum can occupy the better part of a day, one of the best in Germany. Have a nice lunch somewhere depending on what you like - hoist a couple at the Hofbrauhaus, graze at the viktualienmarkt, relax at a beer garden in the Englischer Garten. Endless possibilities.

I would go on one of the many walking tours or bike tours to make the most out of your very short visit. Either choose one from the RS book or look at the ones listed on Trip Advisor. There you can read the up to date reviews and check their websites to see which ones would match your schedule and interests.

Go from Central Station to Stachus / Karlsplatz. The Neuhauser Strasse / Kaufingerstrasse to Marienplatz. Perhaps making a detour to the Frauenkirche. Here are also some restaurants. Next to the residence. Perhaps the Odeonsplatz is interesting. A visit from the Viktualienmarkt is also beautiful. If the weather is fine, I would climb the tower of the Peterskirche, from here you have a beautiful view of Munich. For the S-Bahn to the airport you have to expect 60 minutes.
