Parking for Rental Car into Munich

Any suggestion re. parking our rental car near public transportation outside of Munich so that we do not need to bring car into the city? We plan to have a car for traveling elsewhere in Germany but while we stay in Munich for 1 night could we leave it at a train station parking lot and would the car be safe? We are staying at the Hilton City Center. Thank you in advance.

How much time do you have in mind for Munich? If it's basically just one sightseeing day altogether... and since you'd be riding the train into and back out of Munich on separate days... I might consider switching my one-night reservation in Munich to a one-night location OUTSIDE Munich. Are you visiting Romantic Road towns by car anyway? How about one night in Augsburg, or Landsberg am Lech, both RR towns? The car could then be left right at your hotel, perhaps.

If you decide to consider Russ's suggestion, there are hotels in the Ottobunn area with good connections into downtown Munich. I stay at this one:

It is easy to reach from the freeway and has parking. (if we get a spot outside the door, it is free. When we use the parking garage, I think we paid 10-12 dollars)a night) While still in what used to be called "zone 1" of Munich, it is outside the area where additional permits were required.

We have to take a bus to a train station and then ride in. With your budget, you may be able to get something closer within walking distance of the train.

It does make for a different experience than staying right in the downtown area. With limited time, that would seem like the best option.

Here is a site with ideas for park and rides:

If you choose to google pay lots in the area, you will probably find some. I have found that most lots in Europe would prefer you pay with an app. We usually could find one that accepted cash, but the app looked much easier.

Thank you everyone! I think the way to go is to stay in Augsburg. It is only 1 night so that should work out fine.

Augsburg is a great choice. It's around 30-40 minutes from Munich by train so a very easy to reach.

Augsburg is a very good choice. Look both ways when crossing the street, trams are quite and fast and you might not notice one. There are a lot of them there...
